Historical Event on 11/19/1838
Keshab Chandra Sen (1838-84), nationalist leader of Bengal, was born in Calcutta. He was one of the first Indians to sow the seeds of secularism in the country. He joined the Brahmo Samaj in 1857 but seperated from it in 1866 and founded Brahma Samaj of India, a radical offshoot of the Adi Brahmo Samaj.

6/9/1964	Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation ""Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. He remained in this office till he died on January 11, 1966 at Taskent. In his cabinet, Indira Gandhi served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
8/28/1976	Second World Hindi Conference held in Mauritius.
5/16/1986	V. Shantaram, 75, was chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke award.
3/10/1998	B. B. Lyngdoh of the United Democratic Party is sworn in Chief Minister of Meghalaya. The 12-day-old Congress(I) Ministry resigned following the failure of the party nominee to be elected as Speaker.
6/11/1930	A cyclonic storm blew a train off the rails near Himmatnagar, Gujarat, killing at least one person and injuring many more.
5/29/1936	Gandhi's eldest son creates a controversy as he converts to the Muslim faith.
2/1/1855	East India Railways were held for formal inauguration; Howrah station was opened.
7/2/1961	Prof M S Thacker, DG-CSIR, laid the foundation stone for the wind tunnel complex.
8/2/1987	Vishwanathan Anand becomes the first Asian to win the World Junior Chess championship.
