5/11/1919	Troops under General Barrett inflicted a sharp reverse today on the invading Afghans at Bagh Springs. The whole of the frontier area was up in arms with tribesmen threatening Landi Khotal and martial law being proclaimed in Peshawar. It was expected however that General Barrett, well equipped with guns and airplanes, would soon control the situation. Reports had been reaching London for some time about the possibility of an Afghan incursion following the murder of the pro-British Emir Habibullah. His third son, Amanullah Khan, who took over the throne, was known to be hostile toward the government of India.
10/12/2000	A Special Court sentences former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and his Home Minister Buta Singh to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 2 lakhs each in the 'JMM MPs' bribery case'.

6/28/1972	Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.
3/3/1967	India signed the International Space Treaty in Moscow.
2/6/1939	Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III of Baroda, great nationalist and social reformer, passed away.
9/5/1995	30 member Ladakh Autonomous Hill Council sworn-in that was conceded by the Government of India in 1993.
